Canada and United States coordinate delivery of Haiti National Police equipment – Haiti

October 15, 2022, Ottawa Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

The Honorable Melanie Joly, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, The Honorable Anita Anand, Minister of National Defense, United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin today issued the following statement on Haiti :

“Today, Canadian and American military aircraft arrived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to transfer vital security equipment purchased by the Haitian government, including tactical and armored vehicles, and supplies to the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH). The delivery of the equipment was part of a joint operation involving aircraft from the Royal Canadian Air Force and the US Air Force.

“This equipment will help the PNH in its fight against criminal actors who foment violence and disrupt the flow of much-needed humanitarian aid, hampering efforts to stop the spread of cholera.

“Canada and the United States remain committed to supporting the work of the PNH to protect and serve the people of Haiti. In coordination with international partners, our governments are working with Haitian partners to build Haiti’s capacity to train additional police and improve law enforcement operations.

“Canada and the United States commend the international community for mobilizing new commitments to meet Haiti’s most pressing needs, and we urge international partners to honor these commitments. We encourage partner countries to contribute to the United Nations Common Fund to restore peace and citizen security for the Haitian people. Along with the Government of Haiti, Canada and the United States affirm the importance of working together to support the restoration of security in Haiti.
