Noida woman seen assaulting security guard in viral video arrested for ‘promoting enmity’

New Delhi: After the video of a woman abusing and physically assaulting security guards at a housing company in Noida has gone viral, the woman in the clip was arrested by Noida police on Sunday. The incident happened on Saturday night at Jaypee Greens Wish Town in Noida.

An FIR has been filed at Sector 126 Police Station under Sections 153 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (promotion of enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence ), 323 (willfully injure) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to cause a breach of the peace), among others.

“An FIR has been filed in this case and legal action has been taken in the case. She has been arrested,” Noida Police Deputy Commissioner Harish Chander told ThePrint.

According to Resident Welfare Association (RWA) members ThePrint spoke to, the arrested woman, Bhavya Roy, is a lawyer by profession and has lived at Pavilion Court in Wish Town since May 2022.

In the video, the woman can be seen abusing one of the guards, dragging him by the collar of his uniform, hurling abuse at him and also asking the guards to “respect women”.

In his complaint, guard Anoop Kumar, who is seen in the video asking the woman to step back and not touch him, claims the incident happened around 5.45pm on Saturday.

“Bhavya Roy came with her car and when I got up to open the doors, she got out of the car and started swearing at me. She hit me in front of everyone and humiliated me. She also threatened to kill me. She was drunk at the time. Me and the other guards tried to stop her but she didn’t stop and continued to insult me. Another guard made a video of him. ‘incident which is now on Facebook, Twitter,’ reads the complaint, accessible by ThePrint.

“We are investigating what led to the incident,” DCP Chander said.

A senior police officer told ThePrint they ‘can’t confirm it now, but it appears she was under the influence of alcohol’.

Speaking to ThePrint, RWA member Manish Gupta said, “There are rules here. Each person’s entry and exit is noted by the guards posted here, which only takes a few seconds. It’s protocol. The incident happened when the guard was a few seconds late to open the door due to the procedure”.

According to Anshu Gupta, treasurer of the RWA, this has happened before. “She has also abused security guards in the past in some accident related cases. This incident happened on the roads that had nothing to do with the group of security guards. She has a behavior problem,” Anshu Gupta told ThePrint. “The goalkeeper is in shock and scared.”

It’s still unclear why Roy talked about “respecting women” or referring to “three girls.”

“We don’t have any clarity on that, but according to initial information, she was telling the guards that she was in a hurry with a case related to girls,” Manish Gupta said.

This incident comes days after politician Shrikant Tyagi sparked major controversy in Noida when he allegedly abused a woman, his neighbor, in Noida’s Omaxe society. He was arrested on August 9. Parts of his house, allegedly illegal additions, were demolished as the politician fled.
