Mental health is a serious issue that is starting to gain more attention and more financial resources.

A new mental health and suicide prevention helpline is being established across the country, and it will function as 911. Callers in crisis can dial 9-8-8 and be immediately available. referred to mental health care providers in their community.
âThis is going to be a game changer,â Chase said. “It will be an opportunity for people to have easy access to a 3-digit dialing option to access suicide and crisis-related resources across the country.”
The new number 9-8-8 will also have an impact on dozens of area codes. Callers in 90 area codes in 35 states will soon need to dial all ten numbers on a local call.
Arizona area codes 480, 928, and 520 are among those affected, which means you must include the area code in your call.
âIf it’s for local calls, it’s a little tedious,â said Greg Danielyan. “It does not bother me.”
âAll of my contacts are already with the area code in my phone, so I think I’m ready to go with this change already,â Jamie Upchurch said.
The new 9-8-8 system is expected to be operational by next summer, but area code changes begin Sunday. Phoenix area code 602 will not be affected by the change. The area code 623 does not either.
