Earlier Saturday, in the nearby town of Abu Dis, Palestinians damaged a section of the West Bank security fence, according to footage released by Palestinian media. Israel Police said officers were in the area responding to a violent riot, in which Palestinians threw explosive devices, firebombs and rocks at the forces.

“During the operation, a suspect who attempted to throw a Molotov cocktail at our forces was incapacitated by gunfire,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

The incident came as Israeli forces were on heightened alert, with tensions high due to an Israeli offensive in the West Bank that saw more than 100 Palestinians killed and more than 2,000 arrested in overnight raids.
